🇾🇪🇸🇦 The Houthis say they shot down a Saudi F-15 over Marib with a locally made surface-to-air missile. Military spokesman Yahya Saree said Houthi forces then engaged 2 Saudi F-15s searching for the wreckage and forced them to withdraw. There is no independent confirmation yet that the jet was actually lost. Saree also claims Saudi warplanes have carried out more than 450 airstrikes across Yemen over the past week, hitting 7 governorates and causing civilian casualties. The Houthis say they will continue defending Yemen's airspace "by all available means." For context, the Houthis are renowned for making exaggerated claims, so it's anyone's guess how much of this is true Source: Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman on Telegram, Al Jazeera / Writer: Julie

🇺🇸 JD Vance says Republicans don’t need voters to agree with them on everything, just see Democrats as the worse alternative. “Even if you don't agree with us on every issue, the other party is consumed by craziness. They're consumed by people who want to steal everything.” It's a lesser-of-two-evils play, and a low bar to clear. Then again, bars have been lower. Writer: Julie t.co/ZNNtnQkxmR

🇺🇸 JD Vance says Israel doesn't get a blank check. "We cannot let our Middle Eastern foreign policy be subservient to the state of Israel. We're going to work with people when we work with them. We're going to disagree when we disagree and we're going to pursue America's best interest." He tied it directly to the same argument Trump makes on NATO: important alliances, but no relationship gets to override America's own interests. It would be an impressive statement except for the fact that the U.S has been in a war with Iran on behalf of Israel for nearly 7 months Writer: Julie t.co/a6Y4tFNVJD

🇺🇸 A Tesla Model Y driver recently survived a devastating head-on collision with a vehicle travelling around 84 MPH while attempting an illegal pass. Despite the severity of the impact, the woman in the car escaped the wreckage with nothing worse than a few fractures and tears, crediting the Model Y’s safety engineering with helping save her life. Her replacement car? Another Model Y. Writer: Mhedi t.co/7d1F9JO55n

🇺🇸 JD Vance on Trump's remigration agenda: "If you look at the history of Western governments in the post-war era, they open the border. They invite border invasions, but they never actually reverse it. At best, they slow it down. I think Trump was the first president in my lifetime to actually reverse that flow of illegal immigration. I'm extremely proud of that." Writer: Mhedi t.co/563nn8Khcf

🇺🇸🇮🇷 For the third time, the House has voted to end the war with Iran. The latest War Powers resolution passed 220-204, with every Democrat and 7 Republicans voting to halt U.S. military action without congressional approval. That's up from 4 Republicans in the previous votes. The war Trump launched on February 28 was expected to last weeks. Nearly 7 months later, strikes are still being exchanged, Hormuz remains disrupted and the conflict has already cost more than $38 billion. In practical terms, the vote is largely symbolic. Trump can veto the resolution, and almost certainly will, while previous House efforts never even reached his desk. But with Republican defections growing and the midterms less than 50 days away, the political cost of a war that was supposed to be short is getting harder to ignore. Source: AP / Writer: Julie

🇺🇸🇮🇱 JD Vance says U.S. policy toward Israel should ultimately come down to one thing: American interests. Vance argued that Trump has been more willing than recent presidents to break with Netanyahu when Washington and Jerusalem want different things. “I find it a little ironic that you have Democrats criticizing Donald Trump for his relationship with Netanyahu when Donald Trump is the one president of the last 40 years who's been willing to say, you know what, yeah, Netanyahu’s a good partner, but also Netanyahu and I have a different opinion on this, or Netanyahu’s wrong about this, or maybe Netanyahu’s right about this from the perspective of Israel, but the American people need us to go in a different direction.” Vance went even further, saying U.S. Middle East policy cannot be “subservient to the state of Israel.” Essentially, Israel remains a major military and intelligence partner, but partnership does not mean automatic alignment. 🇨🇳🇮🇷 The Iran war is nearly seven months old, and today its foreign minister flew to Beijing to keep China locked in as an ally. Abbas Araghchi is meeting his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The two already met last week at the BRICS summit in Delhi, where Xi told the bloc that China wants to help end the war in the Middle East. It lands about a week before Xi sits down with Trump. Interesting timing. Just days before this visit, the WSJ reported that China gave Iran satellite images of a U.S base in Jordan before a strike that killed three American troops. Beijing denies it… So can China actually play peacemaker, or is it quietly picking a side while wearing the mediator's badge in public? Writer: Bri t.co/dUAysmSGwR

🇨🇳 Just after the U.S admitted it has space weapons, China broke new records in sea-launched space missions by sending nine satellites into orbit The Gravity-1 rocket lifted off near Shanghai and delivered eight communication satellites for Qianfan. One more "test" satellite rode along, all the way up to 800 kilometers. State media is calling it the world's first sea launch of a broadband megaconstellation. But the timing is what makes this worth a second look… Less than two weeks before this launch, one of China's own satellites, tied to its secretive Yaogan military reconnaissance program, broke apart in orbit for reasons nobody has confirmed. And now, the U.S. Space Force has officially confirmed it has deployed weapons into orbit for the first time. China immediately hit back, telling Washington to "stop preparing for war in space". Makes you wonder what the "test" satellite was that hitched a ride Writers: Bri, Ian t.co/Qmnwm3gwVP

$8.49 diesel in California. $6.59 in Georgia. MTG is right to be sounding the alarm National average hit a record $6.28 this week, up from $3.60 in February This ends up in your grocery bill and it's only going to get worse... It’s time for Republicans to buckle down and get a solution in place for the mid-terms, and beyond. Otherwise, it’s going to be a BLOOD BATH at the polls.

FSD's safer driving is starting to show up on your insurance bill. Score! Zurich Australia is now offering lower premiums for Model 3 and Model Y owners using FSD Supervised. The reason is simple. FSD-engaged driving is showing far fewer collisions across more than 132 million km of supervised use. When the car lowers the risk, the price of owning it should start reflecting that too. @Tesla / Writer: Annette, Grok Imagine Designer: Janné

🇺🇸 California: $8.49. Georgia: $6.59... Same country, same diesel, and two receipts that would have sounded fake a few years ago. MTG’s warning is blunt: this is the start. How long before people stop calling it a “price” and start calling it a crisis? Writer: Val t.co/tHaXjVlPU6

🇺🇸 In 2008, California sold a high-speed rail dream. In 2026, Nick Shirley walked the alignment and called it a $15 billion ride to nowhere. No two cities linked, but the projected cost he puts above $200 billion to finish, and the comparison that makes people furious: China used those same years to lay more than 30,000 miles. He says money went to contractors who couldn’t work, and the route is already colliding with homes and farmland. You can argue his numbers, not the facts: the train was supposed to exist by now. Does this deserve any more funding? Writer: Val t.co/3wwS5k6pxk

🇺🇸 The House killed Al Green's impeachment push 232 to 147, with Democrats helping again Forty-seven members voted present in the third failure of Green's effort in two years. He forced this one without leadership backing, over killings by federal immigration officers, and some colleagues told Axios privately it was a distraction with one week of session left before the midterms. Green's answer was that his critics lack the courage to face him. Watch what happens to that math after November 3. Right now Democratic leadership kills these motions because a losing vote becomes a Republican ad in a swing district. Flip the House and the calculation inverts: subpoena power, the gavels on Oversight and Armed Services, and a caucus whose base has spent seven months watching a war nobody voted for. Don't even get me started on GAS PRICES. The Trump team can see that too, which is why the defense is already being built. Impeachment still likely dies in the Senate, so the real damage is two years of hearings, and leaked testimony, straight through the 2028 primaries. Vance and Rubio would run while testifying about this war. That is the real fight Washington is actually preparing for. Source: Axios / Writer: Daniel

🚨🇺🇸 🇮🇷 The Coast Guard and FBI boarded a Texas-bound oil tanker mid-voyage after finding its network may have been compromised... A team of Coast Guard cyber operators, a vessel inspector and FBI Cyber Action Team agents went aboard the foreign-flagged carrier on August 21 before it could reach port, examining both its IT and operational systems and working with the crew to clear the threat. No operational disruption, no danger to crew, no environmental impact. Washington has not named an actor. Iranian media has been bragging about it for weeks. Mehr reported the ship lost communications for 30 hours on August 7 and claimed attackers reached engine-room systems, cut cooling flow and pushed engine speed. Tasnim ran the headline "No American Vessel Is Safe Anymore: Will Cannons Give Way to Codes?" The vessel in those reports is a 333-meter crude carrier that holds 2.3 million barrels, and it was sailing from Egypt's Sidi Kerir terminal, the exact route Gulf oil now takes to avoid Hormuz. 🇬🇷 Ilias Kasidiaris walked out of prison today and immediately announced he is heading back into Greek politics. The former Golden Dawn spokesman and MP was released after serving his sentence, then told supporters he was returning to the “front lines” with plans for a new national party. Golden Dawn was a far-right Greek political party whose leadership was convicted over the group’s criminal activity. He has said he intends to run in Greece’s next general election, although his path back onto the ballot is still legally complicated: Greek law allows parties to be barred if their real leadership is tied to people convicted of serious crimes, and a Kasidiaris-linked party was already blocked on that basis in 2023.
