The Census Bureau released its 2025 numbers this week, and poverty fell to 10.2%, the lowest since tracking began in 1959. 1.4 million people climbed out of poverty in a single year. Median household income jumped 2.6% to $87,460, an all-time high, and child poverty hit a record low of 13.4%. 2 straight years of falling poverty, and officials are already out celebrating. The mood on the ground says something else entirely, with Americans still telling pollsters the economy feels rough. Some of that is timing, since people are living through 2026 prices while this record is being set in last year's data.
