🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran's biggest oil terminals have been sitting virtually EMPTY for weeks and the U.S. naval blockade appears to be choking off Tehran's crude exports. No crude tanker has docked at Kharg Island, the hub handling almost all Iranian crude exports, since late August. Iran was exporting almost 1 million barrels a day in July. Since late August, tracked crude exports have fallen to essentially zero. That's a dramatic reversal for a country that exported nearly 650 million barrels in the year through April, mostly to China. In 2025 alone, they sent nearly 650,000 metric tons of plastic waste to Turkey, much of it processed in recycling facilities around Adana. A recent study found microplastic concentrations in waterways downstream of these facilities were up to 132x higher than upstream, with pollution spreading into farmland and the Mediterranean Sea. Despite acknowledging environmental issues, the European Commission has allowed exports to continue, with Turkey potentially receiving even more waste under new EU restrictions taking effect in November.
