In return, Abu Dhabi may be seeking concessions over southern Yemen's political future. But what really caught my attention was what Abdullah told me about ordinary Saudis. He says people are increasingly frightened and frustrated by missile warnings, attacks on infrastructure and the constant threat of another strike. And public opposition is extraordinarily difficult in a country where openly challenging the leadership can carry severe consequences.
